Made while visiting my aunt in Chicago. It was so sweet that it reminded me of a big old fashioned donut.

It was tasty. The towel recipe required a bit of filling in the blanks but it was worth it.   

Japanese Mochi Tea Cake

Well after the exploding chocolate cake and a horribly disappointing “magical” custard cake, I decided that I needed a fool proof cake to restart the cake quest. 

When I happened across a cake recipe in my zojirushi bread maker’s cookbook, it seemed perfect. All I had to do was measure and let the bread machine do the rest. 

So I made a tea date with a friend, forcing a deadline, and here we are. Certainly worth making again. And my faith in cake is starting to be refreshed.

My seasonal take on a pineapple upsidedown cake- with peaches and a bit of cornmeal in the cake. It’s the first cake that my Grandpa did not eat. 

He said it looked nice but he wasn’t up for cake with his bacon and egg breakfast.
