Hermit Cave Hike

Hermit's Cave hike: today we hiked a lower section of #Wissahickon . Road noise from Lincoln drive makes me think this section might be more enjoyable on bike. We found the mystic meditation cave site though and saw songbirds and a couple hawks too. Fifty degrees in January is a pretty good deal too. 3.5 miles with the 2-year old managing to lead the way for over half the time. #52hikechallenge #hike2 #wildandfreechildren

52 Hikes

all hikes lead to water (and sometimes ice and mud) #52hikechallenge #52fairmounthikes #phillylove #wildandfreechildren
All hikes lead to water (and sometimes ice and mud) it seems.

Today is our third hike in 2017. I am thinking of joining a 52 hike challenge, in which participants commit to 52 hikes during the course of the year. Specifically I think that it would be neat to take all 52 hikes within the Fairmount Park system. I am still mulling this prospect.

Meanwhile, this is one of our favorite spots: we park at Blue Bell and hike down to the Wissahickon Creek. Today there was ice just at the edge and we all found it mesmerizing to break ice chunks and send them down some little rapids.
