Assateague Island

The weather looked promising so we made a quick last minute overnight trip to Maryland. Not one to pass up on a camping opportunity, we spent the night nearly right along the ocean, at Assateague Island National Shore, just south of Ocean City.

Pastels, breeze, breathe

Yesterday was twenty degrees warmer + we fell asleep to a meteor shower + ghost crabs. We woke up to a symphony of waves; the ocean on our faces. It was magical. #sometimeswesleeplikethis
The sun is now setting on the early side. We fell asleep to a meteor shower, hearing ghost crabs digging near the tents. We woke up to a symphony of waves; the ocean on our faces. It was magical.

There was a moment of rain followed by much bigger waves and fog the rolled in and out.

Assateague, like Chincoteague to the south, is known for it’s wild horses (think Misty of Chincoteague) and they did not disappoint. We also saw something unexpected: wild dolphins splashing in and out of the waves! None of us had ever seen dolphins in the wild and I was just in awe.

Yesterday we woke up to foggy waves + spotted dolphins + had wild horses for neighbors. I'm trying to make sense of this juxtaposed on the train into my Monday. It's confusing + wonderful.
We were (as usual) not there nearly long enough and yet, it was completely worth the effort.

Soon my Pretty, Soon

Soon we will pack supplies into our cutaway van and hit the road.
Soon our books and clothing will be pared down to our favorites.

Soon our snow will melt away and we will trade boots and sleds for bikes and sandals. Hot tea for sweet tea.

But in the meantime, fresh snow has fallen and the woods are calling.

The dog needs walking and maybe I do too. We watch the birds flit in and out of trees and notice all the fresh animal tracks.

Then back to the house for a fire, some curtain sewing, tea drinking, and snow-on-tree admiring.

Soon our scenery will change but for now I’m present here.
