The weather looked promising so we made a quick last minute overnight trip to Maryland. Not one to pass up on a camping opportunity, we spent the night nearly right along the ocean, at Assateague Island National Shore, just south of Ocean City.
Pastels, breeze, breathe
The sun is now setting on the early side. We fell asleep to a meteor shower, hearing ghost crabs digging near the tents. We woke up to a symphony of waves; the ocean on our faces. It was magical.
There was a moment of rain followed by much bigger waves and fog the rolled in and out.
Assateague, like Chincoteague to the south, is known for it’s wild horses (think Misty of Chincoteague) and they did not disappoint. We also saw something unexpected: wild dolphins splashing in and out of the waves! None of us had ever seen dolphins in the wild and I was just in awe.
We were (as usual) not there nearly long enough and yet, it was completely worth the effort.
I’m trying to make sense of this juxtaposed on the train into my Monday. It’s confusing + wonderful.
Happy Monday. May those good thoughts and memories carry you through your week.
